Science and technology in recent years has become not only to support our everyday life in a fundamental and extensive way, but also to affect almost all of its aspects. As a result, we can not help but recognize many resulting problems, which need to be resolved so that science and technology can soundly dettle down in our society. Among the problems in Japan the most serious example is that highly skilled retirees with professional abilities have been created every year, while on the other hand, most young people are indifferent to science and technology. Another example is that, at the expense of safety, economic growth is being pursued as a first priority, while, in the process of industrial stratification, a deficiently of people with skills is getting more and more marked.

We believe that those problems should be tackled on the basis of the following idea ad method. The former is that it is not for tha sake of enhancing the economical activity which may lead to further amplifying human desire, but for the sake of persuing human welfare itself that we heareafter develop science and technology. On the other hand, the latter is to apply the technological way of thinking in everyday life, to share scientific knowledge among age groups, and to maintain the cognition about the importance of technological continuation between generation.

We have organized, in line with the discussions made above, the non-profit organization Institute of Science and Technology for Society (STS). Ongoing STS activities include study meetings, open seminars, lecture meetings and supply of our expert technology to clients.

2 Activity of STS

(1) study meetings and open seminars

Study meetings heve been held for the themes numerated below.  Some of them were already completed.

The results of those meetings will be extended to the form of open seminars, lecture meetings and symposiums. Their contents are to be published each time on our Web Site together with the form of publication in a book style.  

(2) offer of expert technology

Member persons come together with their own expertise to form a consultant group acceptable in the field of broad range of science and technology.

Each request from outside for our technologies will be transfered to members, who are considered to mostly fit the requirement. They will assess in what form STS can respond to the request, for example, consultation or guidance or investigation or design.

In case of a big project, a solution can surely be given by tackling it with plural members who have different technologies from each other.  Such a style of solution is a major advantage to be taken only by our STS.


3 Admission Guidance

Anyone who is interested in STS activity can become a member of STS.

The regular member, who can freely attend the study meetings and open seminars, is asked to actively participate to the undertaking through the planning and the promotion of those activities. 

The supporting member corresponds to a person or a organization who financially aid our actiity, approving the purpose of STS.
